Watch our video on Professions (classes) featured in the Apocalypse 5E game setting. Keep in mind that you can also mix traditional classes from 5E with the Apocalypse setting. Feel free to use any of our optional rules or leave them out. It’s all up to you. Our setting is designed to be complete and cohesive but we’re experienced game masters and understand that the needs of your group will in the end dictate what is used or not.

Expert

Experts are academic specialists in their field of study. Crews will need this expertise in order to be successful on their missions in the wasteland. There are many types of experts. A few are listed below:

  • Application Sciences:  Artifacts, Blacksmithing, Engineering, Tools.
  • Behavioral Sciences:  Economics, Psychology,
  • Entertainment: Art, Dance, Music Performance, Poetry.
  • Formal Science: Computers, Economics,  Logic, Mathematics.
  • Life Sciences: Biology, Botany, Ecology,  Zoology.
  • Medical: Anatomy, Biology, Drugs.
  • Natural Sciences: Chemistry, Geology,  Meteorology.
  • Sociology: Culture, Economics, History, Politics

martial artist

Sometimes referred to as monks, these high-kicking, spiritually grounded beings follow “The Ways”. There are many paths or “ways” to choose from:

  • Way of the Arrow: Masters of low-tech, ranged combat.
  • Way of the Blade: Their chosen weapons are blades, from daggers to greatswords.
  • Way of the Fist: These artists use just their fists, charged with a special kind of life force essence. This essence effects targets in different ways depending upon the martial artists training.
  • Way of the Gun: Sometimes called “Gun-Fu”, they merge shooting and movement to optimize the amount of damage they do.
  • Way of the Mystic Path: The chosen few create a unique path that combines mystic, divine, and earth-based magics along with weapon strikes to deal with enemy targets.
  • Way of the Wastelander: The ultimate survivalist. Their specialized training makes them the perfect people to wander the wastes safely or to help others travel far distances.
  • Way of the Wind: It’s all about speed, whether in combat or moving about, these artists focus on dexterity and finesse.

Mentalist

Mentalists, aka the Psionicist, has the ability to attack an enemies’ mind in various ways. They can put enemies down without   even drawing a weapon! It’s all about control.

  • Empath: have the ability to communicate, read minds, and even “heal” mental damage done by other mentalists or psionic weapons.
  • Psiker: pure attack and damage. Their devastating attacks can leave an enemy quivering on floor, drooling, or screaming in mental agony.
  • Puppeteer: are in complete control of any situation. They can create illusions, emotions, and “altered” realities to manipulate their   targets, even other mentalists.

Mystic

Some call them sorcerers, wizards, or warlocks. These beings know how to channel the power of the universe to   slay enemies, solve ancient riddles, or uncover long-forgotten knowledge.

  • Arcannon: Just like the name implies, an arcane cannon, trained for war. A powerful mage with this training can destroy whole   units of troops with just a few select words and a flick of the wrist!
  • Deathwalker: They like to sometimes call themselves Necromancers, but the nickname has stuck. They command undead spirits and   bodies to attack their enemies.
  • Elementalist: These evokers call forth magical energies to destroy their targets.
  • Mesmer: aka Enchanters, they can charm and influence people.
  • Shaper: They wield the power to alter reality.
  • Summoner: These mystics call forth creatures to protect, attack, or guard.
  • Technomancer: They combine the knowledge of an artificer with arcane talents. A very unique kind of mystic profession.

Prophet

They are often called Miracle Healers, Visionaries,  or Preachers. Their mission to follow the teachings of their religion and spread influence. The methods and attitudes vary greatly, mostly depending upon the cryptic alliance, if any, they belong to.

  • Crusader: Heavily armed and armored soldiers of faith. They are sometimes referred to as Paladins. They combine their weapons and divine powers to become fierce opponents in combat.
  • Healer: They provide divine healing and medicines to refresh the crew. They are also useful for removing curses and purging the Earth of negative energies.
  • Preacher: These prophets can still fight (a bit) and heal (a bit), but their main abilities are influencing people. Whether it’s instilling fear or providing hope, they have the power to shape public opinion and influence politics at high levels. Some use this ability to grab power for themselves, others stay in the background, helping people when they are called to action.

scout profession

Scout

They are sometimes called Rangers, Pathfinders, Trackers, or Hunters. Scouts love to explore and they have the skills to protect themselves in the wasteland. They bring many advantages to a crew, such as knowing what is safe to eat and drink, which monsters to avoid, and what creatures make for a tasty meal. They also know how to handle the weird mutated animals out there. Best of all, they keep the group from getting lost, after all, they ARE the one with the   map!

  • Beast Master: These scouts commonly use animals they have befriended as allies.
  • Hunter: Whether it’s bounty hunter, monster hunter, treasure hunter, etc. the job is all about finding the target for retrieval.

Shaman

Sometimes called Druids, they know what it takes to be one with nature and how to use its resources to their advantage; They don’t require any technology to survive as the Earth provides everything they need

  • Green Keeper: These shamans focus on keeping the planet green and have developed a special bond with plant life. They can even turn themselves into a plant if need be!
  • Wild Shifter: They specialize in using their power to turn  themselves into various animals and creatures.
  • Wind Walker: A unique combination of mystic arcane powers and the elemental forces of nature.

soldier

Just want to kick some “tucas”? Forget taking names. It’s their job to jump into combat without injury. They wield all kinds of weapons and armor, making them extremely versatile in combat. Some are merely grunts or fodder, while others with specialized training rise in fame and achieve great glory.

  • Defender: Heavy armor specialist/armored escort.
  • Grunt: Specializes in melee attacks.
  • Rider:  This soldier has special training in how to pilot things from horses to mechanized vehicles.
  • Shooter: Trained to shoot, whether its primitive bow & arrows or high-tech laser pistols, they can hit targets at great distances.
  • Zerker: A modern day, crazy barbarian at the gates. They rage and cleave. Whether it’s going toe-to-toe with an enemy or building a bomb, these people or just, well… insane soldiers.

Specialist

Often called thieves, rogues, pick-pockets, burglars, thugs, assassins, and other unflattering words. They prefer to be called specialists because they do work that either no one else can do or don’t have the stomach for. They are the silver tongue that gathers information and the shadow that stalks the night, getting into places no one else can. Masters of quick-thinking and “winging” it, specialists are a great asset to any crew.

  • Contractor: Sometimes they are referred to as Assassins or Hired Killer they have a very specialized skill set. These contractors are sometimes hired as bodyguards or for jobs that require secrecy and/or discretion.
  • Infiltrator: These specialists retrieving items and information. For this they are sometimes referred to as repo-men or spies.  It’s not uncommon for them to have special training for all types of security systems, both low and high-tech.
